About the Author

My debut book, Dragonfly Dances: Poetic Musings on Life, is a collection of poems with themes ranging from family, cultural adjustment, nature, society, and grief.

Writing poetry helped me process the immense grief and loss after my mom passed away after a four-year battle with cancer. As a young child, I watched my mom move through the loss of her oldest child, my brother, Billy, who passed away after a tragic accident at age seven.

Raised in the vibrant artistic community of Southampton, NY, my early exposure to a kaleidoscope of arts and cultures sparked a passionate connection to both French and Japanese traditions.

My poetry weaves together French and Japanese influences with the cultural tapestry of my upbringing. My creative process is inspired by my eclectic playlist that accompanies me while writing.

This is truly an inspirational and motivational book based on the author's life. This book embodies "life as poetry." I am especially touched by the poems about Sandi's family.

And how amazing that Sandi is fluent in both English and French and so the book has the poems in both languages.

Be inspired and touched by all the creativity flowing from Dragonfly Dances.

In the preface to DRAGONFLY DANCES: Poetic Musings on Life, poet Sandi Duverneuil writes about wanting to share her “authentic duality,” and that becomes the keystone of the whole work. The first half comprises English poems, and the second half is in French—drawing a literal line through the different aspects of Duverneuil’s life.

Duverneuil is also not shy about how personal the collection is, influenced by her time spent living in New York, France, and Japan, as well as the loss of those she loves.

The death of her mother plays a major part in the construction of several poems, and when she writes “Mom, please help me deal with this,” the reader feels like maybe they’ve overheard a personal conversation they shouldn’t have.

The vulnerability that Duverneuil puts on display is commendable, as it makes the whole collection shine with sincerity.
