First, I'd like to thank all the poets who submitted their work to Peonies & Prose's inaugural poetry competition. It was difficult to make the selection and I truly appreciate each poet's submission!
Threads of Connection was held in honor of my mom, Betsy Meyer, whose never-ending creativity has been a source of inspiration for those whose lives intersected with hers!
My mom battled an aggressive cancer for four years. During that time, connection, despite the logistical difficulties during the pandemic, kept her afloat! After she passed, I re-discovered the healing power of poetry and published my first collection of poems, Dragonfly Dances: Poetic Musings on Life. I love the breadth of 'form' poetry can take and the freedom that comes with not having to follow rules (unless you want to!)
Selected poems (click the poem title to read full text):
First Place: Lynette Eremic, "Fiber on the Porch"
Second Place: Raquel Avila,"When Hearts Collide"
Third Place (Tie): Teresa Gauthier, "So Long"
Third Place (Tie):Tara Zafft, "Ice Cream"
Honorable Mention: De'Nicea Hilton Harper, "Healing is Perfection"
Congratulations again!
